Basic Life Support including AED
STA Level 3 Award in Adult and Paediatric Basic Life Support including AED qualification aims to provide learners with the knowledge and practical competences required to be able to deal with an unresponsive adult, child or infant and competently implement the chain of survival. This qualification is regulated by Ofqual (England) and by Qualifications Wales (Wales).

Prerequisites
Age 16 years or older. Must be able to perform practical demonstrations on the floor.

Topics
Be able to assess an emergency situation safely. This includes conducting a scene survey on an adult, child and infant and summoning appropriate assistance when necessary.
Be able to provide first aid to an unresponsive casualty who is breathing normally. This includes identifying when to place a casualty into the recovery position and how to do it on an adult, child and infant.
Be able to provide first aid to an unresponsive casualty who is not breathing normally. This includes learning when and how to perform Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED).
Assessment
Tutor assessed through practical demonstrations.
Additional information
There is an optional recommendation of attending a short First Aid refresher course annually.
