Basic Life Support including AED and Anaphylaxis
STA Level 3 Award in Adult and Paediatric Basic Life Support including AED and Management of Anaphylaxis qualification aims to provide learners with the knowledge and practical competences required to be able to deal with an adult, child or infant who is unresponsive or experiencing an anaphylactic reaction. This qualification is regulated by Ofqual (England) and by Qualifications Wales (Wales).

Prerequisites
Age 16 years or older. Must be able to perform practical demonstrations on the floor.

Topics
Be able to assess an emergency situation safely. This includes conducting a scene survey on an adult, child and infant and summoning appropriate assistance when necessary.
Be able to provide first aid to an unresponsive casualty who is breathing normally. This includes identifying when and how to place a casualty into the recovery position and demonstrating continual monitoring of breathing whilst the casualty is in the recovery position.
Be able to provide first aid to an unresponsive casualty who is not breathing normally. This includes identifying when and how to administer Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) for an adult, child and infant.
Be able to provide first aid to a casualty with anaphylaxis. This includes recognising suspected anaphylaxis and how to administer first aid in these cases, and using a ‘training device’ adrenaline auto-injector.
Assessment
Tutor assessed through practical demonstrations.
Additional information
There is an optional recommendation of attending a short First Aid refresher course annually.
