Adult and Paediatric First Aid (3 days)
STA Level 3 Award in Adult and Paediatric First Aid aims to provide learners with the knowledge and practical competences required to be able to deal with a range of adult and paediatric workplace emergency first aid situations, as well as a range of specific injuries and illnesses. This qualification is regulated by Ofqual (England) and by Qualifications Wales (Wales).

Prerequisites
Age 16 years or older. Must be able to perform practical demonstrations on the floor.

Topics
Understand the role and responsibilities of a first aider.
Be able to assess an emergency situation safely.
Be able to provide first aid to an unresponsive casualty who is breathing normally.
Be able to provide first aid to an unresponsive casualty who is not breathing normally.
Be able to provide first aid to a casualty who is choking.
Know how to provide first aid to a casualty who is experiencing a seizure.
Know how to provide first aid to a casualty who is suffering from shock.
Be able to provide first aid to a casualty with external bleeding.
Know how to provide first aid to a casualty with minor injuries.
The following topics will also be covered which are in addition to those taught in the shorter one-day course:
Be able to provide first aid to a casualty with suspected injuries to bones, muscles and joints.
Be able to provide first aid to a casualty with suspected head and spinal injuries.
Know how to provide first aid to a casualty with injuries affecting the eyes, ears and nose.
Know how to provide first aid to a casualty with a suspected acute medical condition or sudden illness.
Be able to provide first aid to a casualty with anaphylaxis.
Know how to provide first aid to a casualty with suspected poisoning.
Know how to provide first aid to a casualty with burns and scalds.
Know how to provide first aid to a casualty with suspected chest injuries.
Be able to conduct a secondary survey.
Know how to provide first aid to a casualty who is experiencing extremes of body temperature.
Know how to provide first aid to a casualty who has sustained an electric shock.

- Tutor assessed through practical demonstrations

Additional information
There is an optional recommendation of attending a short First Aid refresher course annually.
